DDOK Foundation's Cavity Prevention Clinic program provides free dental care to Oklahoma kids

Second graders across the state received preventive dental treatment during the 2025-2026 school year, totaling more than $213,000.

With another school year officially complete, Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation is celebrating another successful year of keeping students’ smiles healthy. Throughout the 2025-2026 school year, the Foundation’s portable Cavity Prevention Clinic visited 22 schools across the state and delivered more than $213,000 in free, preventive dental care to Oklahoma kids.

The Cavity Prevention Clinic program focuses on improving oral health outcomes for Oklahoma children through education, screenings and preventive treatment delivered directly in schools. The program targets schools where at least 70 percent of enrolled children participate in the Federal Free and Reduced Meal program and are offered free of charge to students, families and the school.

Highlights from the 2025-2026 program include:

  • 1,731 second graders received oral health education and toothbrush kits
  • 727 students received quality treatment at the free clinic
  • 456 students were protected with dental sealants
  • 648 students received fluoride varnish applications

DDOK Foundation’s Cavity Prevention Clinic visited six school districts this year, including Oklahoma City Public Schools, Union Public Schools in Tulsa, Putnam City Schools, Ardmore City Schools, Chickasha Public Schools and Verden Public, as well as an Oklahoma City-based charter school.

“Oral health is vital to a child’s overall wellbeing,” said Terrisa Singleton-Smith, director of the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation. “By bringing important treatments directly to schools and connecting families with local dentists for continued follow-up, we are helping to ensure Oklahoma kids have the foundational dental care they need for academic success and a better quality of life.”

Cavities, or tooth decay, are among the most common preventable diseases, often beginning in childhood. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces of molars, where most cavities occur.

“Thank you, Delta Dental of Oklahoma, for coming and providing this great service to our kids,” said Debra Fields, principal at Charles Evans Elementary School in Ardmore, one of the schools the Cavity Prevention Clinic visited this year. “We appreciate you all so much.”
