As Oklahoma students and teachers head back to school, Delta Dental of Oklahoma (DDOK) and our Foundation have free resources available to support student wellness and academic success. Captain Supertooth and MouthScience, two programs offered by our Foundation, are interactive, classroom-ready experiences designed to help children better understand the importance of oral health.

Good oral hygiene plays a critical role in helping children thrive both in and out of the classroom. Research shows that children with poor oral health are 52% more likely to have poor academic performance and 43% more likely to experience increased absences from school. By prioritizing healthy smiles, children are more likely to stay in the classroom, remain focused on learning and reach their full potential.

“Improving oral health outcomes for kids in Oklahoma is one of our top priorities,” said Terrisa Singleton-Smith, director of the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation. “By meeting kids where they are and teaching them how important dental hygiene is, we are helping to set them up for a lifetime of success.”

• Captain Supertooth: Oklahoma’s defender of oral health visits Pre-K through third-grade students to present a lively, 25-minute performance to encourage kids to develop positive dental habits. Visit CaptainSupertooth.com to learn more or schedule a visit.
• MouthScience: Designed for third through sixth-grade classrooms, these hands-on kits visually demonstrate the levels of acid and sugar contained in common drinks, encouraging kids to make healthier choices to better protect their teeth. Kits contain all the supplies needed for teachers to facilitate science experiments aligned with Oklahoma Academic Standards. To request a kit, visit DDOKFoundation.org/mouthscience.

Both programs are available at no charge to Oklahoma classrooms. All students who participate in either program also receive a free toothbrush.

More than 48,000 Oklahoma students benefited from these free programs during the 2025-2026 academic year, with 32,813 students viewing the Captain Supertooth show at their school and 15,816 students performing MouthScience experiments in the classroom.
